I am in the process of setting up a demo of Athena Health’s EMR solution. They offer a comprehensive PM/EMR/Outsourced Billing solution that many practices have turned to in recent years. They have a formal partnership with PSS World Medical(Medical Supply Company based in Jacksonville, Florida) and the PSS reps make a lot of money by selling their billing solution. I say this to prepare you for the sales people that will inevitably show up at your doorstep.
I have experience working with them on the billing and practice management side but have not heard rave reviews of their EMR product. I have seen a few successful implementations and have heard horror stories from others. I have also noticed on the billing and practice management side that they are slow to release the promised upgrades like E-prescribe. I hope to find out more about potential work flow issues, support characteristics, and overall product capabilities. I would say as with all EMR programs, that you should be very diligent in the application of a well thought out selection and implementation strategy.
