FreeDom Doctor’s Office Management offers a free EMR and PM solution for offices with 1-3 physicians. This is a non certified Free EMR application that includes both a scheduling and billing component. It is not 100% free because you have to pay for support after 90 days and for annual upgrades like to ICD-10. It is not certified and has no plans to become certified which means that it will not qualify(more than likely) for any stimulus money. It has a built in scheduling and billing system which is nice but the workflow is not exceptional for busier physicians. This would be something that a small office uses that would not qualify for the stimulus money because of their patient base.
Very helpful review! Where is the best place to go to learn some more about the stimulus money that will be available to practices using EMR?
There are some great links on my blogroll that also have information about the stimulus money.
Full disclosure, I am the CEO of Health Data Services, the developer of FreeDOM. I just want to correct and expand on Andrew Ericksen’s review. We do not charge for support after 90 days but we do demand that the practice use at least $100.00 per month in services. The practice can choose among claims submissions services, electronic EOB posting, statement print and mail services, eprescriptons, lab connectivity to Labcorp and Quest, insurance eligibility, coding services,or support. So it is easy to take advantage of enough services so that FreeDOM is essentially free. As to certification, while we have no plans to certify FreeDOM, HDS has also developed MedLedger, which should be certified by April. Any FreeDOM practice can convert to MedLedger in less than 30 minutes and for no charge. MedLedger starts at $400.00 per month and price depends on the number of physicians in the practice. Thank you.
Thank you for the correction. I appreciate you taking the time to inform our readers.
